Restructuring the NIAID Clinical Trials Networks

NIAID is looking to expand upon the success of its six current HIV/AIDS clinical trials networks to create an infrastructure capable of performing both HIV/AIDS research and research involving non-HIV/AIDS infectious diseases. The awards currently supporting the six HIV/AIDS networks are set to expire in 2013 and 2014.

Please check back regularly or subscribe for updates. We will post the latest news and information on the network restructuring initiative as it becomes available.

Resources for Applicants

Below is a list of resources that may be helpful during the application process.

NIAID Town Hall Meetings and Workshops

In connection with the clinical trials network restructuring effort, NIAID plans to publish in spring 2012 a Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) designed to solicit applications for the Clinical Trials Units (CTUs).

To assist potential CTU applicants, NIAID will host three workshops focused on the grant application and review process. The first of these workshops will be held July 28-29, 2012, in Washington, D.C. The two remaining workshops are tentatively scheduled for Aug. 16-18, 2012, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and Oct. 25-27, 2012, in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Additional information about the workshops, including registration and agenda, will be made available in the coming weeks. Please continue to check back to this Web site for updates.

On March 7, 2011, NIAID hosted a public meeting at the Bethesda Marriott in Bethesda, Md., to discuss the development of a non-HIV/AIDS Leadership Group focused on bacterial antibiotic resistance, with the ability to rapidly address emerging infectious diseases.

On October 26, 2010, NIAID hosted a town hall meeting in Arlington, Va., to discuss the future of the HIV/AIDS Infectious Diseases Clinical Trials Networks. NIAID and its collaborating partners from NIH presented key aspects of the new networks with a focus on potential changes in research priorities and network structure, opportunities for collaborations, and general information on the application process.
