Postdoctoral Training in the Laboratory of Immunology

The Laboratory of Immunology (LI) regards training of postdoctoral fellows as a major responsibility and has an extensive record of success in this area. Currently, there are approximately 50 postdoctoral fellows receiving training within LI.

Research training in LI includes a primary focus on original immunological research together with participation in a very active program of internal meetings, tutorials, journal clubs, and formal seminars. Attendance and presentation of research results at major scientific meetings is encouraged and supported by LI to the greatest possible extent. The Division of Intramural Research in NIAID provides excellent resources in support of LI research programs, including a central genomics facility, high-throughput sequencing, bioinformatics, a transgenic and gene targeting facility, an advanced optical imaging core, electron microscopy, available stocks of a large number of key mutant and transgenic mice, proteomics, and peptide synthesis.

NIH also provides training courses in grant writing and submission, run by members of the same extramural staff involved in grant review.

Individuals interested in postdoctoral training in the LI are encouraged to contact Dr. William Paul or any LI principal investigator. A variety of mechanisms are available for support of postdoctoral fellows. A program exists for loan repayment for U.S. citizens who have educational loans above a certain threshold. Individuals may get information regarding this program from the Loan Repayment Program.
