Volunteer for Clinical Studies
NIAID supports research to address the disproportionate public health burden of asthma in inner-city populations. NIAID-funded research focuses on understanding how the environment, allergens, and genetics interact with the body’s immune system to cause asthma and aggravate its symptoms.
The NIAID Inner-City Asthma Consortium (ICAC) seeks volunteers ages 6 to 17 years for the following clinical studies:
Asthma Phenotypes in the Inner-City (ClinicalTrials.gov identifier NCT01383941)
The purpose of this research study is to look at traits or characteristics of people with asthma. Researchers want to learn why some people with asthma need to take a lot more medication than other people with the disease.
Preventative Omalizumab or Step-up Therapy for Severe Fall Exacerbations (ClinicalTrials.gov identifier NCT01430403)
The purpose of this research study is to look at three asthma treatments and their ability to reduce fall asthma attacks in children. Researchers want to learn if different types of study medications will prevent an asthma attack during the fall season better than standard asthma care.
