NIAID Bioinformatics Integration Support Contract (BISC)

Immunology and Data Analysis Portal (ImmPort)

Project Description

BISC is funded by the Division of Allergy, Immunology, and Transplantation (DAIT). Its goal is to advance the discovery and generation of new hypotheses for immune-mediated diseases and to further our understanding of innate and adaptive immunity by

  • Developing and maintaining an integrated data repository
  • Providing advanced computational and informatics support for handling scientific data
  • Disseminating best practices in scientific data analysis, including research data standards for data sharing and ontologies of immunology, disease phenotype, and clinical research
  • Building a platform that enables data exchange and data sharing

Specifically, the BISC will provide the following resources to scientific researchers:

  • A data repository, Immunology and Data Analysis Portal (ImmPort), with user-friendly web interfaces for data query, import, export, and analysis
  • A suite of bioinformatics analysis, data integration, and data mining tools to facilitate the use of the data in ImmPort
  • A suite of metadata standards and the associate templates for sharing immunology research data
  • A long-term archive of clinical and mechanistic datasets
  • A private working space for researchers to use and exchange data before public release
  • Consulting advice on technical and data management issues related to sharing data in ImmPort
  • Technical support, training, and educational programs for data submissions to ImmPort

The BISC was awarded to a multidisciplinary team of bioinformaticians, computer scientists, and scientific domain experts. The team consists of
