Key Functions

• Oversees extramural policy and special extramural administrative initiatives
• Coordinates Council operations
• Performs outreach to the extramural community and staff through Internet and intranet sites and newsletters
• Performs initiative quality control, phasing, and clearance for policy issues
• Handles grant and contract phasing, negotiation, award, and administration
• Manages initial peer review process
• Oversees committee management functions
• Coordinates small business awards and special projects
• Serves as point of contact for research integrity
• Handles application receipt and program referrals
• Participates in the development of policies for managing international research awards
• Oversees research training policies as well as minority and women's health research initiatives
• Develops Web-based and classroom training for NIAID staff
