Office of Strategic Planning, Initiative Development, and Analysis

The Office of Strategic Planning, Initiative Development, and Analysis 1) Serves as a focal point within NIAID for strategic planning, program evaluation, research initiative development, and research portfolio classification, analysis and reporting; 2) integrates science planning, resource planning, program evaluation activities, and related business systems to ensure that NIAID plans, priorities, and programs are executable, transparent, and sound; 3) advises on and coordinates responses to draft federal, National Institutes of Health (NIH), and NIAID policies and guidelines for biomedical research; 4) serves as liaison for all trans-NIAID and trans-NIH planning, evaluation, and portfolio analysis and reporting activities; 5) develops tools and reports that analyze and explain NIAID contributions to preventing, diagnosing, and treating infectious and immunological diseases; 6) supports, guides, and conducts the evaluation of NIAID programs; 7) manages the planning, design, development, review, and quality control of NIAID research grant and contract initiatives; and 8) supports NIAID in creating a long-range, sustainable vision and plan for carrying out its mission based on (a) robust and feasible priorities, goals, and objectives for major NIAID research areas and each NIAID research division, (b) a transparent governance process for the approval, tracking, and allocation of resources tied to priorities and objectives, and (c) rigorous, accurate portfolio analyses and assessments of NIAID's research programs.
