Several types of awards are made in this category, including those in the R (single-grant), P (multi-project grant), and U (cooperative agreement) series. 1The SBIR/STTR programs are congressionally mandated.
2Discretionary: administrative supplements, bridge pool, division discretionary pool, end-of-year, Office of Special Populations and Research Training, and selective pay
3The percentile funding for new investigators was increased to allow NIAID to meet the FY 2009 New PI target numbers.
4 The average cost of competing grants has been adjusted to account for large HIV/AIDS Clinical Trials Network awards. Excluding these large dollar awards allows for the comparison of the average cost of comparable competing RPG awards.
