The mission of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) is to conduct and support research to better understand, diagnose, treat, and ultimately prevent infectious, immunologic, and allergic diseases. NIAID supports research ranging from studies of the fundamental mechanisms of infectious and immunological diseases to more applied studies aimed at developing and testing new diagnostics, therapeutics, and vaccines.
