Aaron Carmody, Unit Head
The RML Research Technologies Section, Flow Cytometry Unit currently provides support only for RML campus researchers. We can help with experiment design, data analysis, and data interpretation involving your cell sorting or multi-parameter experiment.
Instrument
We are equipped with a BD FACSAria cell sorter which delivers high-speed and multicolor analysis. This system has fluidics and optics which allow for sorting 25,000 events/sec at 70 psi, which allows enhanced sensitivity and minimal stress on the sorted cells. It is equipped with fiber-optic-guided solid state 488nm and 635 diode lasers, which allow for fiber optic emissions collections of up to six parameters. Our instrument is equipped with sorting devises which allow two- and four-way sorts using several different tube sizes, as well as the BD Automated Cell Deposition Unit (ACDU) for sorting into 96-well plates or microscope slides.
Capabilities of Cytometry
- Cell sorting
- Immunophenotyping
- Cell cycle analysis
- Apoptosis analysis
- Intracellular protein analysis
Researchers can have their samples analyzed/sorted for membrane, cytoplasmic, and nuclear antigen expression, light-scattering properties, DNA content, cell cycles, and apoptosis, and can measure intracellular biochemical changes such as calcium flux and pH.
