Program Description

Located in the Rocky Mountain Laboratories (RML), the RML Flow Cytometry Unit enables intramural RML NIAID investigators to use state-of-the-art flow cytometric analysis and sorting technologies in their research programs. We provide expertise, experiment design, data analysis, and data interpretation involving cell sorting or multi-parameter experiments. Our staff is accessible for consultation in design and run of experiment and in interpretation of data.

Instrumentation

Our facility is equipped with specialized instrumentation dedicated to the science of flow cytometry, which entails answering biological questions by analysis of multiparameters at the individual cell level.

FACS Aria - Quad

  • Three laser high speed cell sorter: 488nm, 405nm and 633nm solid state
  • Multi-parameter analysis and sterile sorting based on up to 11 parameters (FS, SS, 9 colors)
  • All Digital acquisition allowing all parameter compensation and four- way sorting Single cell cloning into 96 or 24 well plates high-speed sorting (20-70 psi)
  • Sterile cell sorting capabilities for BSL2 and BSL2+ sorting and analysis

BD LSR II - Quad

  • Three laser benchtop flow cytometer, 13 parameters (11 fluorescent colors and 2 light scatters): 488nm argon, 633nm HeNe, 407nm solid state
  • HTS Option capable of running samples in 96-well plate format

BD LSR II – IRF

  • Three laser benchtop flow cytometer, 14 parameters (12 fluorescent colors and 2 light scatters): 488nm argon, 633nm HeNe, 407nm solid state, and 561nm lasers
  • HTS Option capable of running samples in 96-well plate format

BD CantoII – BSL4

  • Three laser benchtop flow cytometer, 10 parameters (8 fluorescent colors and 2 light scatters): 488nm argon, 633nm HeNe, 407nm solid state
  • Tube carousel option for automated tube running
  • Future BSL4 analysis capability

Facs Calibur - Quad

  • Two lasers:  argon, red diode (633nm)
  • 4 parameter analysis
