Research Areas
The overall goal of this project is to establish the "Centro Latino Americano de Investigacion en Malaria - CLAIM". The ICEMR will concentrate on:
- epidemiology, to determine the ecological and epidemiological features of malaria in non-Amazonian regions;
- transmission, to address gaps in the understanding of the ecology, behavior, vector potential and control of Anopheles malaria vectors; and
- pathogenesis, to determine the clinical outcome of malaria infections and the correlation with immunological status in communities living under different intensities of malaria transmission.
Regional Impact
The research center will generate a better understanding of malaria and will provide technical and scientific support to the governments of partner countries, organizations and health care institutions to further contribute to malaria elimination programs in the regions.
