Scope, Amount, and Effort

Checkbox: Will you be able to accomplish the work within the time and resources you plan to request? See Think About Scope, Amount, and Effort.

Checkbox: Are you keeping the scope of the research narrow? Read why this is important in Scope.

Checkbox: Are you thinking about overestimating time and underestimating work? Read more in Scope.

Checkbox: Are you making sure that your budget stays within a reasonable target? See Amount.

Checkbox: Do you know what a typical budget is for a new investigator? See Amount.

Checkbox: Do you understand how much of your time NIH expects you to devote to the award? For more information, see Effort.

Checkbox: Are you making sure you are not spreading yourself too thin? Read more in Effort.

Special Requirements

Checkbox: Will your research have special requirements, e.g., human subjects, research animals, stem cells, rDNA, or select agents?

Checkbox: Can you avoid these areas and still accomplish your research goals?

Checkbox: Have you talked to your business office to find out if you have requisites in addition to NIH's?

Checkbox: Do you need to plan to share and distribute research resources?
