Multiproject applications have special review criteria in addition to the five standard NIH review criteria. |

The following are the special review criteria for the overall multiproject application:
- Scientific merit of the program as a whole as well as that of each research project and core.
- Significance of the overall program goals.
- Scientific gain achieved by combining the component projects into
a multiproject program beyond what would be achievable if each project were
pursued independently.
- Cohesiveness and multi-disciplinary scope of the program and the
coordination and interrelationships of the projects and core
or cores to the common theme.
- Leadership and scientific ability of the PI to develop a program of integrated research projects with a
well-defined central research focus, and commitment and ability to
devote adequate time and effort.
- Qualifications, experience, and commitment of investigators responsible
for a research project and core and their contribution
to the program, including their ability to devote adequate time and
effort.
- For renewal and supplement applications, accomplishments of the program
to date.
Administrative considerations
- Soundness of the administrative and organizational structure that
facilitates attainment of the objective or objectives of the program.
