Closeout

  1. Within 90 days after a research grant ends, PI sends in closeout reports. This does not apply to fellowships. PIs should submit closeout documents online through the eRA Commons. If PI cannot submit any closeout document through eRA Commons, send email, fax, or paper submission to the location listed on File Final Reports at Award End in our NIH Grant Cycle.
    1. Final Financial Status Report (FSR)
      • You must submit all financial status reports electronically through eRA Commons
    2. Final Invention Statement and Certification (not required for research training, conference, or construction grants)
    3. Final Progress Report
  2. After 90-day period, closeout specialist from the Division of Extramural Activities Support (DEAS) sends PI and institution a notice requesting delinquent documents.
    1. If no response after 30 days, DEAS closeout specialist sends a second delinquency notice.
    2. If the documents are not submitted within 30 days, DEAS closeout specialist calls the institutional business official.
  3. Once DEAS closeout specialist receives final reports, he or she sends an email to the program officer to review and approve the final progress report within 10 days. For more information, see Lock icon: This link will not work for public visitors.Centralized Grant Closeout.
