Initiative Development

  1. DEA program coordinator drafts initial phasing plan.
  2. SRP, GMP, and program staff review phasing plan.
  3. Program officer attends pre-initiative planning meeting to review initiative's goals, budget, and schedule.
  4. Program officer, with assistance from DEA OD, SRP, and GMP, drafts initiative, either RFA or PA, using templates.
  5. Program officer follows division's internal review procedures.   
  6. Division submits draft initiative package to DEA.
  7. DEA enters early notification in NIH's Lock icon: This link will not work for public visitors.early notification system (ENS).
  8. ICs view initiatives for program overlaps and co-sponsorship opportunities.
  9. OD, SRP, and GMP review first draft initiative and provide feedback.
  10. Program officer incorporates changes; provides DEA final draft.
  11. DEA program coordinator emails finalized RFAs and PAs to NIH Guide for publication.
  12. After three years, NIAID automatically deactivates PAs.
