Negotiation, Award, and Funding

  1. Office of Extramural Research generates just-in-time notifications for applications receiving a percentile of 20 or less.
  2. Program officer can request early funding for applications reviewed at September Council in the same fiscal year rather than the next one.
  3. Program officer selects applications for funding and develops funding plan.
    1. Can request to disaggregate a multiproject application.
    2. Can recommend candidates for R56-Bridge or selective pay awards.
  4. Program officer completes a Program Officer Checklist and forwards to grants management specialist.
  5. Grants management specialist negotiates award with PI.
  6. For clinical research awards, PIs must have appropriate training and provide for safety monitoring.
  7. Grants management specialist works with program officer on Notice of Award.
  8. Grants management officer signs and releases award in IMPAC, which generates an email to grantee.
