Second-Level Review

1. Eight weeks before the Council meeting, NIAID conducts expedited review using Electronic Council Book.

     1. Acting on behalf of the full Council, three Council members review peer review results in the Electronic Council Book.
     2. The three members recommend en bloc approval of applications that meet criteria.
2. Remaining applications receive regular review at Council meetings, which occur three times a year.

3. Each NIAID subcommittee meets in closed session.
4. Subcommittee considers applications with special issues, including foreign grants, and approves selective pay awards.
