Second-Level Review

  1. Eight weeks before the Council meeting, NIAID conducts expedited review using Electronic Council Book.
  2. Remaining applications receive regular review at Council meetings, which occur three times a year.
  3. Each NIAID subcommittee meets in closed session.
  4. Subcommittee considers applications with special issues, including foreign grants, and approves selective pay awards.
  5. Subcommittee funding recommendations are brought to full Council for final funding approval.
