Part 3. Write Your Application

In this part, we give you detailed information about writing an effective Research Plan and filling out the forms. We start with the importance and parameters of significance and innovation.

We then discuss how to focus the Research Plan, relying on the iterative process described in Part 2, and give you advice for filling out the forms.

In this section, you'll also learn the importance of having a well-organized, visually appealing application that avoids common missteps and the importance of preparing your just-in-time information early.

Before reading the information in this part, you may want to first read about planning the application in Part 2.

While this document is geared toward the basic research project grant, the R01, much of it is useful for other grants.
