Updated October 29, 2013. NIH does not yet have an appropriation. We are operating under a continuing resolution (CR) through January 15, 2014. The salary cap and stipends continue at levels from the January 20, 2012, Guide notice.
During the CR, the salary cap is $179,700.
Congress sets the salary cap for grantees and contractors and stipend levels for trainees and fellows. When you prepare your budget, check the cap on the direct salary you can charge to a grant in your competing or noncompeting application, contract, or proposal. Your institution may pay you beyond the cap with non-grant funds.
Note: for a nonmodular, noncompeting award, you may not get paid beyond the salary cap by rebudgeting from other categories, but you may use any freed up salary funds for other purposes.
During the CR, follow the table below:
*The daily stipend is calculated by dividing the yearly stipend by 365 days irrespective of Sundays or holidays.
