NIAID funds over $100 million in Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) awards using set-aside funds mandated by Congress. In FY 2014, the SBIR program's set aside is 2.8 percent of NIH's extramural budget and the STTR program's is 0.4 percent. The small business programs are reauthorized through FY 2017.
