Prior Consultation Timeframes for Investigator-Initiated Clinical Trial Applications

Timeline displaying the weeks before the application deadline, latest time possible. Specific times shown are also listed in the bullets below.

We strongly advise you to perform these steps well in advance of the dates listed.

PI should contact program officer to discuss idea no later than 10 weeks before deadline.
Send formal request by eight weeks before deadline.
NIAID will provide prior consultation within six weeks after your request.
Include NIAID's prior consultation summary letter with the application.
