Creating NIH Guide Notices SOP

Purpose

To outline the procedure for creating notices and submitting them to be published in the NIH Guide for Grants and Contracts, known as the NIH Guide.

Procedure

The NIH Guide is NIH's official publication for announcing the availability of NIH funds for research and training as well as disseminating policy and administrative information. For NIAID, the Office of Extramural Research Policy and Operations (OERPO) in the Division of Extramural Activities (DEA) reviews all notices, requests for applications (RFA), and program announcements (PA) and submits them to be published in the NIH Guide.

NIAID Staff

To get a notice published in the NIH Guide:

Office of Extramural Research Policy and Operations Staff

  • Review draft notices submitted by NIAID staff and make any necessary changes.
  • Notify requestor if any significant changes are made.
  • Determine type of notice:
    • RFA, PA, program announcement identifying location of peer review (PAR), or program announcement with set-aside funds (PAS)
    • Notice of Intent to Publish (NOITP) - Note: an NOITP must be published in the NIH Guide at least 30 days before an initiative is published.
    • Notice of change to funding opportunity
    • Notice of information
    • Request for information
    • Policy notice
    • Administrative supplement
    • Request for proposals
  • Enter notice into the NIHGPS for Office of Extramural Research approval.
