This SOP has internal roles only.

Standard Operating Procedure Table of Contents

Purpose

To obtain reports of NIAID-funded science from NIAID's Referral and Program Analysis Branch (RPAB).

Procedure

RPAB creates reports on NIAID-funded science so staff can respond to congressional inquiries, formulate budgets, and analyze scientific topics and trends.

NIAID staff need approval from the Budget and Financial Management Branch to share scientific reports outside their immediate offices.

Follow these steps to request a scientific report.

All NIAID Staff

  • Email your request to Scientific Information Retrieval (SIR). If your request is strictly budgetary, email Budget Request instead.
    • Be as specific as possible about the information you need.
    • Include the fiscal year you want data for, the activities to be included (e.g., extramural or intramural), and the date you need the report.
  • When your report is done, review the results with RPAB staff to make sure it meets your needs.
  • Before sharing the report outside your immediate office, email the NIAID budget office at Budget Request for approval. Allow for the budget office to review the report.

RPAB Staff

  • Interpret, analyze, and code NIAID's research portfolio and provide scientific reports.
  • Develop a search query that includes selection criteria, format, and deadline. Confirm with the requestor.
  • Search for a previous report that may satisfy the request.
  • Perform search or send search instructions for more complex requests to the Software Engineering Branch (SEB).
  • If the report is complex or will require significant time for approval from the budget office, inform Budget Request.
  • When SEB returns the report, review it, and send it to the requestor.

SEB Staff

  • Run reports within 72 hours, sooner if high priority.
