Discovery of New Host and Viral Targets and Inhibitors
NIAID supports investigator-initiated basic research to identify and validate novel viral and cellular targets for the therapy of HIV infection. Areas of current interest include: development of high throughput screening assays (HTS) to facilitate drug discovery efforts; strategies/entities to eliminate viral reservoirs; inhibitors of pathways/processes critical to virus replication/persistence (attachment, entry, assembly, maturation, and cell trafficking).
