Eosinophilic disorders occur when eosinophils, a type of white blood cell, are present at elevated levels in various parts of the body. Eosinophils are involved in tissue repair and play a role in allergic reactions. However, accumulation of excess eosinophils can result in tissue damage. NIAID research on eosinophilic disorders focuses on understanding how these conditions develop and on identifying new strategies to treat them.
