Primary Immune Deficiency Diseases

Labs at NIAID Conducting Primary Immune Deficiency Disease Research

There are two NIAID labs studying primary immune deficiency diseases (PIDDs):

• Laboratory of Clinical Infectious Diseases (LCID) investigators study inborn immune defects leading to increased susceptibility to infection.
• Laboratory of Host Defenses (LHD) investigators study immune functions needed to fight infection and the genetic basis for PIDDs.

LCID and LHD clinicians also oversee NIAID’s Primary Immune Deficiency (PID) Clinic, which serves the following purposes:

• Provides thorough exams, diagnoses, and treatment recommendations for PIDD patients and their families
• Offers eligible individuals the opportunity to participate in an ongoing PIDD clinical study
