Rotavirus is the leading cause of severe diarrhea in children. Each year, an estimated 527,000 children die from diarrhea caused by rotavirus, and another 2 million are hospitalized. NIAID supports a broad range of research to better understand, treat and ultimately prevent this serious global health problem.
