Acting Director Alkis Togias, M.D.
Alkis Togias, M.D., has been appointed as the Acting Director of the Division of Allergy, Immunology, and Transplantation (DAIT) at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). Prior to this role, Dr. Togias has served as Chief of the Allergy, Asthma, and Airway Biology Branch since 2013, having initially joined the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in 2006 as a Section Chief. His career spans decades of clinical research in asthma and allergic diseases, including senior faculty appointments at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine from 1989 to 2006, where he also completed his Internal Medicine residency and post-doctoral research and clinical fellowships training. Dr. Togias earned his medical degree from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in Greece.
