Johanna Schneider, Ph.D.
Acting Director, Division of Extramural Activities
Dr. Schneider brings nearly two decades of experience at NIAID, with expertise in scientific administration, policy development, strategic planning, and organizational leadership. Prior to joining NIH, Dr. Schneider completed postdoctoral fellowships at the University of Michigan and the University of Virginia. Dr. Schneider earned her bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and Ph.D. in Neuroscience from Northwestern University.
She joined NIAID in 2008 as a Technology Transfer and Patent Associate in the Technology Transfer and Intellectual Property Office (TTIPO). In 2013, she transitioned to the Division of Allergy, Immunology and Transplantation (DAIT), where she served as Chief of the Office of Operations, Planning, and Information. In 2019, Dr. Schneider joined the Office of Strategic Planning, Initiative Development and Analysis (OSPIDA) as Chief of the Policy and Evaluation Branch and subsequently served as Director of the office.
Throughout her career at NIAID, Dr. Schneider has advanced the Institute's mission through strategic leadership, operational excellence, and evidence-based decision-making. As Acting Director of the Division of extramural Activities (DEA), she draws on extensive experience and a deep understanding of the extramural research enterprise to support NIAID's scientific and public health priorities.
