Updated October 15, 2020. NIAID set interim paylines for small grants (R03), research enhancement awards (R15), exploratory/developmental grants (R21), and small business (R41, R42, R43, and R44).
Paylines are the funding cutoff points for grant applications. Following the paylines, NIAID funds most applications in percentile (for R01s only) or overall impact score order (for others). Each fiscal year, NIAID sets the initial paylines conservatively and may fund additional applications beyond the paylines at the end of a fiscal year.
