Technology Development Model Licenses and Definitions

These forms are provided for reference only. Most licenses must be negotiated, approved, and signed by the Technology Transfer and Intellectual Property Office (TTIPO). Please contact TTIPO for further information.

The Technology Transfer and Intellectual Property Office (TTIPO) staff members are experts in technology transfer and intellectual property and are NIAID’s main resource for negotiating licensing agreements.

Biological Materials Licenses

Biological Materials Licenses allow a company to make, use and/or sell commercially useful biological materials that are not in the public domain, but without patent protection.

Commercial Evaluation Licenses

Commercial Evaluation Licenses grant the non-exclusive right to make and use a technology to evaluate its commercial potential.

Internal Commercial Use License

Internal Commercial Use Licenses grant the non-exclusive right to make and use an invention for the internal use by the licensee.

Non-exclusive and Exclusive Patent Licenses

Non-exclusive and Exclusive Patent Licenses allow a company to commercialize an invention, subject to applicable statutes and regulations.
