Biocontainment Laboratory: University of Missouri Regional Laboratory for Infectious Disease Research (LIDR)

The University of Missouri Laboratory for Infectious Disease Research (LIDR) is one of the NIAID-supported Biocontainment Laboratories. LIDR is a critical resource for University of Missouri faculty and collaborating scientists who perform research on infectious diseases and is part of our nation’s effort to protect public health. Built to the highest state and federal safety standards, this building aids researchers in the discovery and development of new ways to fight bacterial and viral infections.

Support Services

Laboratory and Analytical Support

  • Immunology services: Flow cytometry, cell sorting, ELISA, ELISPOT, post-mortem cytokine/chemokine analysis on high-throughput Luminex platform.
  • Pathology services: Necropsy, gross pathology, histology, immunohistochemistry, muscle, renal, liver and serum clinical chemistry profiles over seen by board certified laboratory animal and veterinary pathology veterinarians.
  • Microbiology services: Growth and titration of Yersinia pestis, Coxiella burnetti, Bacillus anthracis, Francisella tularensis, Brucella spp, Orientia tsutsugamushi, Sindbis virus, Dengue virus, Chickungunya virus. Post-mortem analysis of pathogens in tissues, including culture and real time PCR. DNA manipulation, PCR, and other molecular biology capabilities.
  • Cell Culture: tissue- and cell-culture capabilities.
