“The most important asset of this Institute is the people who, at all levels of the organization, contribute to our collective successes in achieving the NIAID mission for the benefit of the public health.”
- Former Director Anthony S. Fauci, M.D.
At NIAID, diversity matters.
- We fund and support researchers from a wide range of backgrounds and communities.
- We are growing a diverse and inclusive workforce and workplace for all staff.
- We prioritize health equity in all the research we conduct and support.
Minority Health & Health Disparities Research
NIAID understands that racial and ethnic differences affect vulnerability to infection and disease. That’s why we are committed to research that helps reduce these health gaps. Our efforts have led to the development of better drugs for HIV/AIDS, vaccines that have almost eliminated Haemophilus influenzae type B (Hib)-related disease, and educational programs and other interventions to improve asthma control among inner-city children.
Accessibility at NIH
At the National of Institutes of Health, we are committed to accessibility. We firmly believe that all people, including people with disabilities, should be able to fully and independently use our buildings and facilities, information and communication technology, and programs and services. We recognize that accessibility is an ongoing goal and pledge to continuously improve accessibility in all areas of NIH.
