At NIAID, diversity matters.

  • We fund and support researchers from a wide range of backgrounds and communities.
  • We are growing a diverse and inclusive workforce and workplace for all staff.
  • We prioritize health equity in all the research we conduct and support.

Minority Health & Health Disparities Research

NIAID understands that racial and ethnic differences affect vulnerability to infection and disease. That’s why we are committed to research that helps reduce these health gaps. Our efforts have led to the development of better drugs for HIV/AIDS, vaccines that have almost eliminated Haemophilus influenzae type B (Hib)-related disease, and educational programs and other interventions to improve asthma control among inner-city children.
