NIAID participates in NIH’s Environmental influences on Child Health Outcomes (ECHO) Program, which recently released a notice of special interest and request for information.

ECHO issued Notice of Special Interest (NOSI): Research Supplements To Promote Diversity in Environmental influences on Child Health Outcomes (ECHO) Program Research (Admin Supp, Clinical Trial Not Allowed) to foster a diverse child health workforce by supporting graduate (predoctoral) and health professional students and individuals in postdoctoral and clinical fellows training through two-year research experiences.

Eligibility is limited to ECHO cohort grantees and the Institutional Development Awards States Pediatric Clinical Trials Network, and applicants may propose no more than one candidate per award. Applications are due May 26, 2021. See the NOSI linked above for complete details.

ECHO also published Request for Information (RFI) on Enhancing the Science for the Environmental influences on Child Health Outcomes (ECHO) Program to collect community feedback on possible approaches for strengthening the science behind ECHO’s observational research. For example, the RFI asks about:

  • Innovative tools and approaches for remote data and biospecimen collection in large epidemiologic studies
  • Engagement strategies to enhance recruitment and retention of diverse study populations
  • Strategies for recruiting participants preconceptionally, and retaining them through pregnancy into childhood

To learn more about ECHO’s interest in these topics, attend Webinar To Discuss Request for Information (RFI) on Enhancing the Science for the Environmental influences on Child Health Outcomes (ECHO) Program tomorrow, May 6, from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Eastern Time. Answer the RFI by emailing your response to NIHKidsandEnvironment@od.nih.gov before May 25, 2021. Take care not to include any sensitive or confidential information.

Finally, ECHO is sponsoring a Preconceptional Origins of Child Health Outcomes Workshop on June 17 and 18, 2021. The virtual workshop is free to attend and you can Register Now.
