On October 1, 2022, NIH’s Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare (OLAW) will cease accepting requests from Assured institutions to waive the Public Health Service (PHS) Policy on Humane Care and Use of Laboratory Animals requirement to inspect all the institution’s animal facilities (including satellite facilities) at least once every 6 months.

Additionally, existing OLAW-approved waivers due to COVID-19 will expire on October 1, 2022.

All Assured institutions, including those with expiring waivers, must conduct semiannual facility inspections as scheduled and required by PHS Policy.
