NIH will consider accepting applications after a submission deadline from investigators whose institutions close due to a natural disaster, such as the recent hurricanes Henri and Ida. If your institution was closed, explain the cause of submission delay in your Cover Letter, and NIH will consider accepting it late. The lateness of your application should not exceed the number of days the applicant institution was officially closed.

For current grantees, contact the grants management specialist or program officer assigned to your grant if you are concerned about your ability to submit financial and progress reports on time due to institutional closures.

Additionally, because of the ongoing public health emergency related to COVID-19, NIAID may, at its discretion, accept late applications through funding opportunity announcements for which NIAID is the locus of review on a case-by-case basis for circumstances other than an official institution closure.
