Provide Comments on Managing and Sharing American Indian/Alaska Native Participant Data

As part of its commitment to building partnerships with American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) communities, NIH seeks input on draft Supplemental Information to the NIH Policy for Data Management and Sharing (DMS Policy) to promote responsible management and sharing of AI/AN participant data under the DMS Policy.

The purpose of this supplemental information is to:

  • Support researchers in submitting a Plan under the DMS Policy with appropriate data management and sharing, when conducting research with AI/AN populations
  • Promote an understanding of Tribal sovereignty
  • Recognize the historic harms to AI/AN Tribes in relation to data oversight and privacy
  • Provide best practices to mitigate potential risks to AI/AN Tribes
  • Facilitate respectful, sustained, and equitable partnerships between AI/AN Tribes, researchers, and the biomedical research enterprise
