The ‘Research Education Outcomes’ attachment is a required component of the NIAID Research Education Program Advancing the Careers of a Diverse Research Workforce (R25, Clinical Trial Not Allowed) funding opportunity announcement (FOA). The NIAID Research Education Program (R25, Clinical Trial Not Allowed) FOA does not have the same requirement.

In the attachment, applicants should list outcomes and subsequent educational/career progress for recent participants (past 5 years) as well as the pool of potential applicants, to include:

  • Aggregate number and demographic characteristics of participants
  • Educational level of participants
  • Successful enrollment in an advanced degree program (e.g., M.D. or Ph.D.)
  • Successful completion of a graduate degree program in an NIAID-research related field
  • Subsequent authorship of scientific publications or scientific presentations to outside conferences in a biomedical field
  • Subsequent participation in a formal research training or career development program in an NIAID-related research field
  • Subsequent participation in NIAID-related research

The requirement is not waived for new research education programs; you must still provide appropriate information about any pilot program participants and your potential future participant pool.
