NIAID follows an automated process to determine the program officer assignment for each new award based primarily on the scientific area of investigator-initiated applications or the funding initiative for which solicited applications were submitted. Refer to the Program Officials section of NIH’s Understand Staff Roles webpage and our Program Officers SOP to learn more about program officers’ responsibilities.
