Biography

Dr. Akagbosu a board-certified pediatrician and current fellow in pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology, and nutrition at Children’s National Hospital (CNH) pursuing triple board certification in obesity medicine as well as pediatric gastroenterology. Her long-term research interests involve studying the pathophysiology of obesity, with a focus on discerning the molecular mechanisms that regulate obesity such as the gut microbiome. She is currently studying the gut microbiota of children and adolescents undergoing bariatric (weight-loss) surgery, before and after sleeve gastrectomy, with the long-term goal of developing microbiome-based therapeutics to treat childhood obesity.
