Biography

Dr. Andrew Varble's research career has centered on virus-host interactions. During his undergraduate studies at Rochester Institute of Technology, he investigated the innate immune response to Indiana vesiculovirus. At the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, he earned his Ph.D. under Benjamin tenOever's guidance, focusing on influenza virus transmission. Shifting his attention to prokaryotic viruses, Andrew completed his postdoctoral training in Luciano Marraffini's lab at The Rockefeller University, where he explored bacterial CRISPR immunity and bacteriophage interactions. Now leading his own research group at University of Rochester, he investigates the mobilization of genetic material in bacteria.
