Does Your NIAID Grant Opportunity Have Questions and Answers?

For some—but not all—NIAID notices of funding opportunity (NOFOs), we publish an associated questions and answers (Q&A) webpage. The opportunity-specific Q&As can help you interpret the NOFO, find related guidance (e.g., webinars or study protocols), and improve your application.

How can you confirm whether NIAID has a Q&A page for your chosen NOFO? Use either of these methods:

For a working example, go to our PAR-23-198, NIAID New Innovators Awards NOFO. Near the end of Section I, you will find a link to the Q&A for PAR-23-198.

Any time you read an NIAID NOFO, build a habit of checking whether there are associated Q&As. If there are, note the following:

  • Although you are not required to read the Q&As, we strongly advise you to do so.
  • Q&A pages typically start with just a few questions. NIAID will add more over time, as needed. Remember to check for updates before you apply.

For additional answers and advice, reach out to the scientific/research contact listed in Section VII of the NOFO. You can get NIAID's perspective on your research, whether your application plans seem like a good fit for the NOFO requirements, and more. Find additional guidance at When to Contact an NIAID Program Officer.
