A Reminder for Authorized Organization Representatives to Verify Grant Assignments
NIH encourages grant recipients to verify the accuracy of their grant assignments to departments or components within their organizations for awards made in fiscal year 2024. The deadline for authorized organization representatives (AORs) to make corrections, if needed, is October 3, 2024, at 8 p.m. Eastern Time.
NIH uses this information to produce NIH RePORT data, answer calls for information, and fulfill annual reporting requirements on expenditures and research portfolios. The records are frozen following each fiscal year to ensure consistent results over time.
For instruction on viewing and re-assigning grant affiliations, AORs should read Review of the Accuracy of Grants Information for Fiscal Year 2024.
NIAID Continues Participation in Ecology and Evolution of Infectious Diseases Program
The National Science Foundation (NSF) reissued the program solicitation Ecology and Evolution of Infectious Diseases (EEID), which invites grant applications on the ecological, evolutionary, behavioral, physiological, oceanographic, and socio-ecological principles that influence the transmission dynamics of infectious diseases.
The EEID solicitation caps awards at a maximum of $3 million in total costs across a maximum of 5 years. NSF anticipates making approximately 10 new awards. The next submission deadline is November 20, 2024, and annually on the third Wednesday in November thereafter.
Keep in mind, you should follow NSF’s application guidance rather than NIAID’s if you decide to apply. Refer to Preparing Your Proposal. Proposals selected for funding by NIH will need to be reformatted and resubmitted to NIH’s Center for Scientific Review. If you have NIAID-specific questions about the EEID program, contact Dr. Stephanie Coomes at stephanie.coomes@nih.gov or 301-761-6855.

Award Challenge Offers Prizes for Data Reuse Projects
Check out the 2024 DataWorks! Prize if your research team can propose and execute innovative secondary analysis and data reuse to generate novel scientific findings, as well as create a valuable set of case studies and examples for use by the broader research community.
This is a prize competition, which means NIH’s Office of Data Science Strategy will select winners progressively as developmental stages are achieved, i.e., after the work has been completed. (This differs from grants or contracts, where an agency instead receives research proposals, makes selections, and then pays awards incrementally as the work is done.)
In Phase 1, teams will submit a proposal for a secondary analysis research project that can be completed within a 6-month period; in Phase 2, teams will complete their reuse/secondary analysis research projects and share their findings publicly. NIH will award a $500,000 prize purse—with up to ten Phase 1 winners receiving $25,000 each, a Phase 2 grand prize of $100,000 for one winner, and up to two Phase 2 distinguished achievement awards of $75,000.
The deadline to apply is October 23, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time. Direct questions about the competition to dataworks@faseb.org.
