Influenza Treatment

Antiviral drugs for treating the flu are oseltamivir (Tamiflu®), zanamivir (Relenza®), and peramivir (Rapivab®). These drugs interrupt the function of neuraminidase on the virus surface and prevent the release of viral particles from infected host cells. However, antimicrobial resistance is an ongoing challenge.

Influenza Diagnosis

Flu can be difficult to diagnose, because its most visible symptoms of fever, cough, and aches are similar to other common illnesses. Researchers have developed rapid diagnostic tests that distinguishing flu type A and flu type B such as paper-strip test, Lab-in-a-Tube, FilmArray, Xpert Flu A/B, and QuickVue.
