Official Study Title: Apheresis and Specimen Collection Procedures to Obtain Plasma, Peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cells (PBMCs) and Other Specimens for Research Studies
The NIAID Vaccine Research Center is looking for volunteers who are fully recovered from confirmed COVID-19 infection to donate blood for a research study. The aim of the study is to further define and understand specific immune responses.
What does the study involve?
The NIAID Vaccine Research Center is collecting blood samples from adults ages 18 years of age or older who are fully recovered from confirmed COVID-19 infection. Blood samples will be collected by ordinary blood drawing (phlebotomy) or by apheresis, a procedure for collecting a larger quantity of blood cells or plasma than would be possible through simple blood drawing. Participants may have only one sample collected or may be asked to undergo repeat sample collection procedures, depending upon the requirements of the research project.
Is compensation provided?
Participants are compensated for their time and inconvenience.
Where is the study taking place?
The study is being conducted at the NIH Clinical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, and EvergreenHealth Medical Center in Kirkland, Washington.
Who can participate?
Individuals must have one of the following recovery criteria to participate:
- Be 30 days post positive swab
- Be 14 days post symptoms having resolved, including 14 days after last use of medication to reduce temperature or manage symptoms
- Have 2 negative nasal swabs
