Biography

Dr. Erica Brittain joined the Biostatistics Research Branch at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) in 2003; serving as Deputy Branch Chief since 2013.  She collaborates with clinical colleagues primarily in allergy and autoimmune diseases. Prior to NIAID, she worked at FDA Center for Drug Evaluation Research, the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute, and Statistics Collaborative.  She has worked in the clinical trial area since 1985, and has published extensively on clinical trial design methodology.  She is an elected Fellow of the American Statistical Association, and recently co-authored a book that was a PROSE award finalist.  She has also served as Associate Editor of Controlled Clinical Trials (now known as Clinical Trials) and was a Statistical Consultant to Nature Journals.  She has frequently served on advisory panels at FDA and NIH.  She earned her Ph.D. in Biostatistics at the University of North Carolina in 1984.  She also received an M.S. in Statistics from Stanford in 1980, after graduating with a B.S. in Mathematics from Tufts in 1977.
